72 bedroom Somerset coastal hotel sells within days of launching
Specialist property business adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Daunceys Hotel in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
A substantial site consisting of six houses in a Grade II Listed crescent built in 1860, the property is arranged over five floors, plus the basement, with passenger lift access and offers numerous internal public rooms, ancillary areas, flexible owners’ accommodation and 72 letting bedrooms. The seafront side of the crescent benefits from balconies and a wide trade terrace, a conservatory, lawn gardens and patios.
Situated in a prominent location overlooking Weston Bay, the asset boasts panoramic views over the North Somerset coast and Bristol Channel whilst benefitting from the range of visitor attractions and leisure amenities offered in the popular tourist town of Weston-super-Mare.
The hotel had catered for the private leisure, corporate and coaching markets for a number of years under the ownership of The UK Holiday Group, one of Britain’s leading privately-owned holiday and hospitality companies. A strategic decision was made to sell Daunceys Hotel, which presented the market with a great opportunity to acquire a sizeable hotel located in a prime position.
Within days of launching to the market, Christie & Co received interest from property developers and care operators all looking to stamp their mark on a large asset with the advantage of superb sea views, resulting in a sale to the Directors of Supported Independence Ltd, a specialist local provider of supported living.
Supported Independence Ltd comments, “We are really pleased to have purchased the closed Daunceys Hotel which was identified by North Somerset Council in 2017 as one of its designated locations for additional housing to 2026.
Due to the closure of the hotel, we considered the building was now better suited to re-development and look forward to working with North Somerset Council to realise desperately needed new housing in this area.“
Matthew Smith, Director at Christie & Co's Bristol office adds; "We are thrilled to announce the sale of Daunceys Hotel. The UK Holiday Group made the decision to close the hotel to concentrate on other aspects of their business which presented an exciting opportunity to market this substantial asset.
“Due to the lack of allocated parking in this location we were of the opinion it would be a challenge to generate interest from hotel buyers, in particular for those wishing to attract the private leisure market. We considered that interest would be received from buyers seeking an alternative use, especially where parking would not be the focus of the operation, and we are delighted to announce Supported Independence’s exciting plans to fully utilise this unique property.”
Daunceys Hotel was sold off a guide price of £995,000.
