Mr Ball’s grandfather, Mr Gordon Ball originally bought the forecourt in 1927 and the family have knocked down and re-built the site twice during this time, the most recent development having taken place in 1992. The forecourt is located on the southbound carriageway of the A36 from Bath to Beckington. It enjoys consistent trade with an uplift in the summer which is provided by tourists and day trippers travelling south from Bath.

More recently, Mr Ball and Mrs Rawlinson have run the forecourt choosing to keep the shop independent with the fuel being supplied by Greenergy under the Esso brand.

Having received multiple bids on the forecourt, top five independent forecourt operator Applegreen were the successful buyers securing the site for an undisclosed sum.  Applegreen have another site close by in Trowbridge and saw the potential due to its location.

Dave Morris, Business Agent at Christie & Co commented: “Farleigh Service Station presented an excellent opportunity for an established operator and will be a good addition to Applegreen’s portfolio. We wish Anthony and Suzanne all the best for the future.”

Anthony Ball commented: “The family is delighted that after 89 years of hard work, we have passed the family business on to a top 5 independent operator with the help of Christie & Co. We hope that Applegreen can take the site to the next level. ”
