Award winning restaurant on Isle of Mull brought to the market

The award winning seafood restaurant, Cafe Fish, Tobermory, on the beautiful Isle of Mull has been brought to the market through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

Cafe Fish benefits from a global reputation as a destination seafood restaurant, known for its fresh shellfish and warm ambience. It enjoys regular media recognition and has gained many awards and accolades over the years, most recently Scottish Food Awards’ Seasonal Restaurant of the Year in 2017 and is currently shortlisted for Scottish Food Awards’ Fish Restaurant of the Year 2018.

Situated on the upper floor of the Calmac Pier in picturesque Tobermory, the restaurant occupies the original Art Deco building previously home to the Cal Mac Ticket Office, with spectacular views over the Sound of Mull, the islands and mainland beyond. The indoor dining area, which is decorated in a blue and white nautical theme, seats 38 covers with an additional terrace, which can accommodate a further 50 covers. The restaurant will typically serve 80 to 90 guests at lunch and the same again in the evening. The business holds a registered fish buyers licence, so the restaurant can provide the ultimate dining experience by purchasing shellfish daily, directly from local fishing boats.

The Isle of Mull is one of the largest island in the UK with stunning coastlines, outstanding natural beauty and rich Scottish heritage, attracting a wide range of tourists, including mountain climbers, sailors, bird and whale watchers, cyclists, artists and musicians. The restaurant has traditionally opened from mid March through to the end of October, presenting a new owner with the opportunity to extend the season or trade year round, taking advantage of the increasingly popular winter season.

The family run restaurant was first opened in 2006 and is now owned and operated by cousins, Jane Gill and Liz McGougan. The cousins have made the decision to sell, predominantly to be closer to their loved ones, and comment, “Tobermory is a magical island – the landscape and the warmth of the community get under your skin and it feels very much like home, but time moves on and so have our personal circumstances. Jane now has a husband and home in Glasgow, and Liz wants to make her home with her partner in the Caribbean.  It’s ironic because business has never been better, but we both feel it’s time to hand the reigns over to someone with fire in their belly and the passion and commitment to drive this business on to even greater things.”

Josh Hill, Business Agent at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments, “The restaurant has astonishing reviews on popular review sites like TripAdvisor and performs extremely well. Cafe Fish presents the perfect opportunity for an owner operator or chef to take advantage of arguably one of the best restaurant within Scotland Inner Hebrides.  The lease is available until at least 2036 and we expect Cafe Fish will attract a mixture of buyers from first time entrants to experienced restaurateurs."

Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £500,000 for the leasehold going concern of Cafe Fish.
