The Cottage in the Wood, a unique hotel and restaurant in Worcestershire, dubbed ‘The Best View in England’ by the Daily Mail has been sold by specialist property adviser Christie + Co.
Located high in the Malvern Hills, a designated area of outstanding beauty, The Cottage in the Wood enjoys panoramic views of the Severn Valley, to the West of the Cotswolds.
As well as its panorama, the hotel is equally famous for having been a destination of choice for Margaret Thatcher, who regularly visited The Cottage in the Wood to relax, particularly during her later years and where Elgar performed on occasion.
The hotel is comprised of 30 en-suite bedrooms across three buildings. In the main house, the recently refurbished, award-winning 2 AA Rosette Outlook Restaurant may be found — aptly named owing to the stunning views provided by the large Georgian windows. The restaurant offers a wide range in high quality food, and boasts an extensive wine list. Also within the main house is a bar lounge, a boardroom and seven double bedrooms.
Four further rooms are within the adjacent Beech Cottage, originally a woodman’s cottage which pre-dates the main building by over 100 years. The remainder of the rooms are within the third building, The Pinnacles, named after Pinnacle Hill that rises above it. Arguably the best views of all are to be enjoyed from the balconies and patios of bedrooms in this impressive three-storey building.
Gavin Wright, Director of Christie + Co who handled the sale says: “The Hotel has been successfully run by the Pattin family for over 27 years, John & Sue Pattin will retire but their son and daughter, Dominic and Maria, will remain working in the business. The successful buyer Nick Davies and his wife Julia have moved from London and will be actively involved in running the hotel.”
Christie Finance assisted the new owners with arranging specialist funding for the deal. David Ward, Director at Christie Finance comments: “After being offered non-favourable terms from their existing bank, we approached Mr Davies to help them find funding to purchase The Cottage in the Wood. With our guidance and sector knowledge we were able to deliver the right funding to help fulfil all their needs.”
Christie + Co sold the Hotel off an asking price of £1,750,000 for the freehold interest.
