Bedford bar brought to the market through Christie & Co

The Standard occupies a prominent position on the high street, next to the market square and the embankment. Decorated in an art deco theme with comfortable leather sofas and flagstone floors, the pub maintains a welcoming and cosy feel. The open plan ground floor provides seating for up to 60 seated guests or 200 standing guests, as well as a small trade kitchen to the rear. On the first floor, there is a large and newly refurbished covered terrace, with its own bar and seating for up to 30 covers or standing for a further 60. The terrace is extremely popular among customers and ideal for hosting private events.

Arranged across the second and third floors, six double bedrooms, two bathrooms and two kitchens are currently occupied by staff and tenants, generating additional income for the business. Additionally, there is a separate self contained flat with a large bedroom, lounge and kitchen, which is currently utilised as owner’s accommodation. 

The Standard has been successfully trading for five years under the current owner, Jeremy Sphoggaras, an experienced operator, who has previously operated several other sites in Bedford. Mr Sphoggaras has steadily built The Standard’s reputation in the local area with the business’ great service and fantastic range of drinks on offer.
