Bupa Dental Care acquires Metamorphosis Orthodontics in London
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Metamorphosis Orthodontics, a leading orthodontic private practice in Fulham, South West London, to Bupa Dental Care.
Metamorphosis Orthodontics was established by renowned orthodontist Dr Neil Counihan in 2008, following the success of his first private practice based on Harley Street, and offers orthodontic treatment for children and adults. The practice relocated to its current location on New King’s Road in 2015.
In 2017, Metamorphosis Orthodontics won the prestigious Oral B ‘Best Children’s Care’ award and Private Dentistry’s ‘Best Team’ award and is recognised as one of the largest and most successful private orthodontic practices in the UK.
Dr Counihan has decided to pursue other academic interests within the medical sector, having recently completed a master’s degree in stem cell therapy, and comments, “I am delighted to have handed over the reins of Metamorphosis to a global dental provider. It has been a pleasure and privilege building such a fantastic team and I wish them and the many loyal patients all the very best.”
Speaking of the news, Gabriela Pueyo, General Manager for Bupa Dental Care, said, “Neil and the team have built a leading orthodontic practice, with an excellent reputation. We’re looking forward to supporting the team to continue to provide the best patient care and to build upon its success. I’m delighted to welcome everyone to the Bupa family.”
Simon Hughes, Managing Director – Medical at Christie & Co, who acted on behalf of Dr Counihan and brokered the transaction, comments, “Very rarely does a dental business of the quality of Metamorphosis become available for sale. Neil and the team have created a special clinic, and this was borne out by the interest shown by a number of prospective purchasers. Bupa emerged as the preferred buyer and Metamorphosis will complement its orthodontic portfolio perfectly.
“We are noticing a significant increase in demand for fully private dental practices, whether general or specialist, and this trend is set to continue as we move closer to NHS dental reforms.”
Louise Fegan of Morrisons Solicitors acted on behalf of the vendor, and Jonathan Tyson of Knights plc acted on behalf of the buyer.
Metamorphosis Orthodontics was sold for an undisclosed sum.
