Canvey Island store brought to the market through Christie & Co

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has recently brought to the market Furtherwick Stores, a convenience store located on Canvey Island, which lies off the south coast of Essex.

Occupying the ground floor of a two storey building, the modern and well maintained 1,300 sq ft trading area offers a range of chilled and frozen goods, convenience items, magazines, newspapers, homeware, alcohol and tobacco, in addition to National Lottery services. The store also provides free customer parking.

Located on one of the main roads leading through Canvey Island to the seafront, the store is situated in a predominantly residential area within a parade of shops. A short walk from Canvey Island seafront, Leisure Island Fun Park and Fantasy Island Amusement Park, Furtherwick Stores benefits from high levels of footfall and a strong customer base.

Current owners and brothers, Semat and Firat Duymus purchased the store through Christie & Co in 2015, during which time they have successfully built upon the already existing trade. The two brothers are now looking to sell in order to relocate to be closer to family.

Adam Sellers, Business Agent at Christie & Co comments, “Furtherwick Stores presents a terrific opportunity for either a first time buyer or experienced operator to take on a good-sized convenience store with significant scope to increase trade. The convenience store market in Essex remains buoyant with a mix of applicants looking for freehold and leasehold stores, especially across the southern areas of the county. While buyers tend to focus on freehold units, we have recently completed on the sale of two leasehold convenience stores in Canvey Island itself, both of which are situated within close proximity to Furtherwick Stores. This in combination with readily available funding in the retail sector, I am confident Furtherwick Stores will generate strong interest from a variety of buyers.”

The store is held on a 20 year lease, which commenced in October 2015, with an annual rent of £16,500. Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £139,995 for the leasehold interest of Furtherwick Stores.
