Christie & Co appointed to sell Northampton Independent School
Following recent news of the closure of St. Peter’s Independent School in Lingswood Park, Northampton NN3 8TA, specialist property adviser, Christie & Co, confirm its appointed as the school’s sole selling agent.
The co-educational Independent School, which currently caters for children aged three to 16 years of age, was established in 1979, when it was opened by a Headteacher who had a vision to make independent education more accessible to local children. The current coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on the school and the economy, which prompted the decision to close.
Headteacher, Julie Fenlon, said, "It is with great sadness that we have had to announce the closure of St. Peter’s Independent School in Northampton, having served the community for 40 years. It has been an absolute privilege to have been Headteacher of the school I attended, my father taught at and I subsequently chose for my daughter’s education.”
Michael Dawe, Chair of Trustees said, “The coronavirus pandemic has had an adverse effect on the business model of the school. The trustees are also very saddened but, in view of the length of time that the local economy is likely to recover, it is best that the school closes now and does not linger on”.
Courteney Donaldson, Managing Director of Childcare & Education at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale comments, “We wholly empathise with the stress and pressure that the situation surrounding the pandemic has placed on so many schools, their proprietors, teachers, students and parents alike. The decision to close a school is never taken lightly. The pandemic is increasingly having a profound impact on the financial sustainability of many Independent Schools across the UK. These are incredibly difficult times for many.
“St. Peter’s Independent School occupies a beautiful position within a fully enclosed secure campus, beside parkland and a local nature reserve where children have enjoyed a peaceful and inspiring surrounding, over many decades. The school offers extensive accommodation and offers much opportunity to a purchaser, seeking either to retain the exiting educational use, or for an alternative use subject to the necessary consents being obtained. Offers in excess of £1.5m are invited.”
