Christie & Co appointed to Warsaw's Modlin Fortress project
Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been appointed to draw up a feasibility study for the hotel properties being constructed as part of the Modlin Fortress – part of the Warszawa Modlin Smart City development in Poland
The historic Modlin Fortress is a complex of fortifications located at the confluence of two rivers: Wisła and Narew, where the Warszawa Modlin Smart City scheme is slated to be erected in 2020.
Grupa Konkret S.A., which bought Modlin Fortress from the Military Property Agency, is planning to create a city of intelligent solutions at the site. The company is intending to construct the largest conference and convention centre in this part of Europe, with two hotels, a residential estate, as well as office and retail space.
Modlin Fortress is one of Poland’s most noteworthy historical monuments and is located close to Warsaw and in the direct vicinity of the international airport at Modlin. The 58 hectare complex of fortifications, constructed at the initiative of the Emperor Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century, will now be given a new lease of life.
Adam Konieczny, Head of Poland at Christie & Co comments, “The unique historical nature of the site, its superb location at the confluence of two rivers, great transport links and the multiple functions planned for the scheme are the decisive factors as far as its potential is concerned.
“Modlin Fortress will, in the future, become one of the key conference and convention centres in Poland. Due to its sheer size, the scheme is of strategic significance in terms of the growth of the entire region. It will provide numerous jobs for Modlin’s residents and those from the neighbouring areas, including Warsaw.”
Modlin Fortress comprises in part of a complex of defence barracks which is the longest building structure in Europe and one of the longest ones in the world. The citadel, which is the main element of the fortress, is 2250 metres long.
Mr Konieczny added, “The site’s natural beauty is also of crucial importance. The fortress is located at the confluence of the Wisła and Narew rivers and there are nature reserves in its direct proximity and Kampinos National Park is also nearby. Wisła enjoys the status of Europe’s last wild river, thus causing the location to be the ideal spot for enthusiasts of beautiful landscapes and wild nature from both Poland and abroad.”
