Located in the heart of Tuscany, this large, well-connected yet secluded resort that stretches across the hills in the south-eastern end of Siena was originally developed by a Tuscan noble family more than 200 years ago.

The estate, which closed in 2012, consists of 51 generously proportioned rooms spread across several individual buildings, set within the Sangiovese vineyards. The site also features two outdoor pools, a spa with an indoor pool, a meeting room and a restaurant.

The new owners, Precise Hotels are an inspiring, luxury collection of hotels and resorts in Germany and Spain. Renowned for their meticulous attention to detail and ability to create the perfect blend of modern innovations with traditional heritage in each of their properties, the group plan to breathe new life into Poggio with an extensive refurbishment before reopening the estate as part of their exclusive collection.

Carine Bonnejean, Managing Director of Hotels at Christie & Co managed the sale and comments, “Italy, and in particular Tuscany is a hotspot for many hotel investors due to the region’s popularity with tourists. The sale of Poggio alla Sala offered a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding property in an exclusive location rich with history and culture, with potential for transformation into an upscale resort.

“We are delighted to have supported the previous owners, Bayview Italia and Precise Hotels in this transaction, which attracted strong interest from global investors and operators looking to enter the Italian market. We are seeing this demand right across the country, with similar interest being generated for a second opportunity that we are marketing on behalf of Bayview, an exclusive collection of assets centred around the medieval village of Parrano in Umbria, which is set to be auctioned in October.”

Giuseppe Rojo, CEO of Coldwell Banker Commercial adds, ‘’The sale of the exclusive Poggio Alla Sala property to Precise Hotels is a fantastic outcome. The prestigious hotel group’s plans to turn the estate into an upscale resort will transform the area and we look forward to seeing these come to life.”
