Following its closure in October 2013, the former Cerne Abbas Care Centre on the outskirts of the ancient Dorset village of Cerne Abbas has been sold by specialist property adviser Christie + Co following strong interest and multiple offers.

The property has been acquired by Casterbridge Manor, who plans to extensively refurbish the building and reopen as a care facility later this year.

The former Cerne Abbas Care Centre was previously registered to accommodate 57 clients and boasted 57 bedrooms, 52 of which had en-suite facilities. The accommodation was arranged over three floors, with two lifts and five self-contained flats on the top floor.

Simon Harvey, Director at Christie + Co, handled the sale. He comments: “After taking the difficult decision to close the home, we were delighted to be able to assist our clients in achieving a sale and encouragingly, the facility will be reopened and once again provide care for people in the local area.”

“We congratulate Casterbridge Manor on this superb acquisition and are confident they will make a success of this sleeping giant.”

The freehold interest in the property was sold an undisclosed sum having been marketed at a guide price in the region of £750,000.
