Historic Lake District hotel sold to operator through Christie & Co
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of The County Hotel in Kendal, Cumbria, to Daish’s Holidays, a family run hotel and coach holiday operator with sites in coastal resorts throughout the UK.
The hotel occupies an historic former coaching inn in a prime location adjacent to Kendal railway station, close to the town centre. Within the traditionally constructed property are 37 en suite guest bedrooms with lift access to all floors, plus a lounge bar with seating for approximately 60 guests, and a separate restaurant that accommodates over 60 covers.
Kendal, which is known as ‘the historic gateway to the Lakes’, is a picturesque market town located on the edge of the Lake District National Park, and within close proximity of Lake Windermere, the local fells, and numerous tourist attractions. With good access links via the nearby M6 and West Coast Mainline, the hotel is easily accessible from the wider region and across the country and is popular with tourists year round.
Prior to the sale The County Hotel was operated as part of The UK Holiday Group portfolio.
George Brown, Director of Daish’s Holidays comments, “We are delighted to have acquired The County Hotel. For Daish’s Group, The County Hotel is the first of a new brand for us, that will be targeting premium economy markets that are seeking touristic city and country locations. We will be refurbishing the property over the next few months, and will be looking to re-launch the business in early 2019.’’
Ryan Lynn, Director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “We were very happy to be instructed again by Paul Bennett from the UK Holiday Group after selling another one of their hotels in Somerset earlier in the year. We launched the hotel to the market in March this year and had marketed the opportunity, built the interest and agreed a deal within a couple of months, a process which was helped by an experienced buyer and seller on each side. We look forward to working with Paul again and wish George Brown at Daish’s the best of luck with the hotel moving forward.”
Christie & Co sold The County Hotel on a freehold basis, in excess of the asking price of £975,000.
