Somerset charity buys local supported living home

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of vacant support living home, Homeward, in Somerset to local charity, Freeways.

Homeward care home in Somerset

Homeward is a substantial former supported living home offering 20 bedrooms over two interconnecting three-storey properties with a purpose-built extension to the rear. Originally a pair of Edwardian semi-detached houses, these are attractive period properties in keeping with the area and benefit from side lane access and rear gardens.

Homeward is located in the popular coastal town of Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset. The properties span 21 to 23 Trewartha Park, a desirable tree lined residential suburb on the northern slopes of the town, and enjoy an elevated position with sea views.

Originally part of a care home portfolio, the business has been family-run for over 50 years and is the final home to be sold which will allow previous owners, Carol and Gillian, to retire from the sector.

Homeward has been purchased by local charity, Freeways, which has over 30 years’ experience of providing residential accommodation for adults with learning disabilities across Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, and B&NES. Freeways plans to re-establish Homeward as a supported living home.

Previous owner, Mrs Carol Hinks, comments, “I'm sad to see Homeward go but it couldn't have gone to better people. The work that Freeways is doing is very valuable and I trust they are able to really feel at home here.”

Operations Manager at Freeways, Jacinta O’Shea, comments, “Freeways Trust is delighted to have secured Homeward, 21-23 Trewartha Park. The property is in a great location and will help the charity to provide much needed high-quality accommodation for existing and future clients in the area.”

Oliver McCarthy, Associate Director – Care at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “After selling Earlfield Lodge for Carol and Gillian last year, we were pleased to be asked to sell the pair’s final home, Homeward, to allow them to retire. Following a full and open marketing campaign, we received multiple offers from local, regional, and national providers. We look forward to seeing Freeways bring this brilliant, closed supported living home back to life.”

Homeward was sold for an undisclosed price.
