New owners found for successful Somerset bar and leisure business
Specialist property advisor, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Lazy Days Holiday Park, a pub, caravan park and café business in Brean, Somerset.
Brean has one of the largest concentrations of caravan and camping parks in the UK and is a year-round coastal resort and leisure destination. Brean Down is a National Trust site which, from the top, offers breath-taking panoramic views of the beach, Berrow, Burnham-on-Sea, and Weston-Super-Mare. Located only around five miles from junction 22 of the M5 motorway, and seven miles from the mainline railway station at Highbridge, Brean is a haven for nature lovers.
The business comprises of Lazy Days Caravan Park, Ocean Bar Public House and Ocean Waves Café. The holiday park operates mainly from March to October with the pub staying open all year; drawing customers from the many holiday parks and local residents in the area, attracted by the beachside location and amazing sea views. Although the pub does reduce its opening hours in the Winter, it still benefits from a healthy local trade from the neighbouring towns and villages.
Our clients Brian and Valerie Kear have decided to retire after nearly 22 years. The family have enjoyed a high level of income and lifestyle from this profitable business and were ready to hand over the reins to the new owners.
Lazy Days has been acquired by business partners Martin Parfrey and Jamie Woodman. Martin previously owned a parcel delivery franchise and Jamie was a professional snooker player turned businessman; currently operating the Centuries Club in Kingswood, Bristol.
They don’t plan to make any drastic changes to the core business model and will mainly be undertaking cosmetic and branding improvements to bring Lazy Days up to date.
They comment, “We are delighted to have been able to acquire this business. Although we don’t intend on changing things too much, we think that we have the knowledge to drive this business forward to new heights.”
Nicholas Calfe, Director (Licensed) at Christie & Co, handled the sale comments, “I am so pleased to have sold Lazy days for Brian, Val and their son Darren, and at long last they can enjoy a happy retirement.
“I also wish the new owners Martin and Jamie, the best of luck, on what is a well-established and successful business they have purchased. At least they will have a few quieter months to plan any changes before the hectic summer season starts in Easter!”
