North Wales hotel with royal connections sold by Christie & Co
Specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of Plas Dinas Country House, a ten bedroom, 5 Star country house hotel and AA Rosette awarded restaurant, situated within 15 acres of woodland and gardens close to the North Wales village of Bontnewydd, near Caernarfon.
Steeped in history, the Grade II Listed Plas Dinas is part of the Armstrong-Jones family estate, which was established in 1960 when Antony Armstrong-Jones married HRH Princess Margaret. During their 18-year marriage, the couple regularly spent weekends at the house and it was used by Lord Snowdon as he designed the setting for Prince Charles' investiture ceremony at Caernarfon Castle in 1969. More recently Plas Dinas was visited by Prince William whilst serving as a search and rescue pilot at RAF Valley. Today, the property still retains many family portraits, memorabilia and original furniture.
The ten individually styled guest rooms, which reflect the historic character of the property, are complemented by The Gunroom at Plas Dinas Country House, a traditional, country house restaurant, serving a monthly changing, locally sourced menu. Headed up by award-winning local chef Daniel ap Geraint, the venue aims to bring a dash of London glamour to the area.
The business was operated by Neil Baines and Marco Soares for five years, during which time they cultivated an excellent reputation for both the accommodation offering and the accompanying food and beverage trade - as evidenced by strong reviews. They sought a sale in order pursue other business opportunities within the hotels sector.
Plas Dinas was purchased by Daniel Perks, who has 20 years of hospitality experience, most recently managing luxury hotels, and Annie Bickerton a bespoke wedding, events and marketing professional with extensive experience in the luxury market. Daniel comments, “We had been searching for the ‘right’ property for a number of years and Plas Dinas Country House instantly caught both of our attention. We were both keen to find a property with a story, that we personally could keep telling through our hospitality and creative designs, and Plas Dinas offered just that.”
Tom O’Malley, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “We’re delighted to have found new owners for Plas Dinas. Daniel and Annie’s experience puts them in a superb position to develop the wedding and events aspect of the business, which will undoubtedly see strong trade off the back of Plas Dinas’ royal connections. As you would expect from such a high profile property there was significant interest from the market and this is a pattern we’re seeing across North Wales at present, particularly for country house hotels and hotels within the main coastal resorts.”
Plas Dinas Country House was sold on a leasehold basis, off an asking price of £295,000.
