Picturesque Chew Valley pub finds new owner through Christie & Co
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of the lease for The Queen Adelaide, a popular inn in the village of Blagdon, located on the edge of the Mendip Hills, a recognised area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Somerset.
The detached two-storey, period building has been carefully renovated in recent years both internally and externally, with redecoration of the pub and upgraded catering equipment as part of the revamp. The property comprises a main lounge bar and dining area split into three sections on two levels with overall seating for approximately 60 persons, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, basement storage, and a three bedroom owner’s accommodation on the first floor. Externally, the site also features a car park for approximately 22 vehicles, a beer garden with table seating to the rear of the premises, and two outside storage sheds.
Situated overlooking Blagdon Lake, in the popular Chew Valley area, The Queen Adelaide offers spectacular views of the picturesque landscape and benefits from additional footfall from visitors to the well-known destination and customers using the nearby fishing and shooting facilities.
The previous owners, Mr & Mrs Chappell, decided to sell The Queen Adelaide in order to pursue retirement and look forward to travelling across Europe to visit friends and family.
This is a second site for the buyer, Mr David Green, who owns the Ring O’ Bells in Nailsea, North Somerset, and he plans to act as the main chef at The Queen Adelaide. As a qualified fly fishing coach, David was attracted to the inn due to its location overlooking Blagdon Lake. He comments, “I am delighted to have purchased The Queen Adelaide. Our plan is to build an excellent food reputation by using good locally sourced food and offering gastro quality at pub prices plus promoting a selection of local ales.”
Nicholas Calfe, Director based in Christie & Co’s Bristol office adds: “We are thrilled to announce the sale of The Queen Adelaide. Christie & Co has had a longstanding relationship with this property having sold it previously to Mr & Mrs Chappell and before them to Mr & Mrs Hogan. We welcome David Green who plans to further invest into the business which makes for an exciting time for everyone involved with The Queen Adelaide.”
Christie & Co sought £59,000 for the leasehold of The Queen Adelaide.
