Prominent Bristol pub comes to the market through Christie & Co
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co is pleased to bring to the market, The Winford Arms in Dundry, Bristol.
Originally built in 1834 as a gear store for a nearby coal mining enterprise in Bristol, the building was converted into a pub and named the Winford Arms in 1856. This prominent roadside food house is a well-known landmark on the busy A38 and is set amongst green countryside, despite being just over five miles from central Bristol and circa two miles from some of Bristol's most densely populated suburbs.
Bristol Airport is three and a half miles away and a further eight miles to the South West lie the Mendip Hills; a designated area of natural beauty. Located here are Blagdon and Chew Valley lakes, popular with walkers and fisherman, as well as the famous Wookey Hole Caves and Cheddar Gorge.
There is significant opportunity for new operators to develop the Winford's excellent reputation even further and to extend opening hours which could especially improve wet sales and the introduction of evening entertainment may also attract more custom.
After 17 very successful years at the Winford Arms, our clients Steve Gunter and Gofan Lewis, have decided to retire and are looking to buy a property in Spain to live in for at least half the year. Steve commented, “It is sad to be leaving, as we’ve enjoyed every minute, we’ve had at the Winford Arms, but after 17 successful years it is now the right time for us take a step back and enjoy our retirement. We approached Christie & Co as we knew they were market leaders in selling pub businesses and when we realised that Graeme Clifford would be handling our sale our decision was even easier, as he knows the pub so well since he negotiated the lease with us when he worked for the pub company. We were even able to show him a copy of the original business plan we presented to him back in 2002!”
Graeme Clifford, Business Agent at Christie & Co is handling the sale and comments, “I’m delighted to be working with Steve and Gofan again and it is abundantly clear that they have done tremendously well at the Winford since they took over in 2002. Successful pubs like the Winford Arms rarely come to the market and even though the current trade is very strong, we expect to receive a lot of interest in this lease sale as there is still plenty of scope to further growth in the business.”
Christie & Co are offering the leasehold interest in the Winford Arms at £160,000.
