Prominent Scarborough hotel seeks new owners

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has been instructed to sell the Mount Hotel, a large coastal hotel located in the well-established and historic seaside town of Scarborough, East Yorkshire, which sits on the Yorkshire Heritage Coastline near the seaside town of Whitby and the famous North York Moors National Park.

Situated near the beach and the famous South Cliff Funicular Railway, the Mount Hotel commands stunning sea views, overlooking the iconic Spa Bridge from its elevated South Bay position in the town centre. The 5-storey hotel comprises 50 en suite bedrooms arranged over four floors, reception area, lounge and bar, large dining restaurant with a separate function room annexe, large commercial catering kitchen and a basement, which provides further storage and office space.

Having owned and operated the hotel for 70 years, the family has now decided sell the hotel in order to retire.

Given its size and enviable location, the hotel possesses huge potential for further growth to increase trade and room numbers. Adjoining the hotel, a five-storey town house, which keeps in the same external style as the hotel, could be developed to provide further letting rooms.

Mark Worley, Director at Christie & Co, who is handling the sale comments, “Scarborough has recently benefitted from considerable investment in its facilities, attractions and infrastructure and is currently experiencing an upsurge in local industry, which is boosting the economy, particularly tourism and leisure. The Mount Hotel is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hotelier to invest in the building and the business to drive income and profits forward.”

Christie & Co is seeking an asking price of £2 million for the Mount Hotel and the town house. The town house can be excluded from the deal.
