Scarborough pub snapped up by experienced local operators
Traditional British country pub, the Coachman Inn in the North Yorkshire village of Snainton, near Scarborough, has been sold through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co to experienced local operators.
The Grade II listed, Georgian built pub has been recently refurbished and restored, comprising the 20 cover Coachman Bar, a snug with seating for 16, a restaurant area for 50 covers and a private dining room for an additional 15 guests. Additionally, the inn provides six en suite guest letting rooms, an enclosed beer garden and large customer car park.
Having established a strong reputation as a quality destination inn, the Coachman is a popular venue with both locals and the multitude of tourists drawn to the nearby North York Moors National Park year-round. Sitting in a highly accessible position just off the A170, the Coachman Inn is within easy reach of the renowned seaside resort of Scarborough which sees high numbers of visitors particularly in the summer months,
Previous owners, Ian & Carol Rae owned the pub for three years before deciding to sell in order to retire. They comment, “Christie & Co sold our last business, The Cliffmount Hotel in Runswick Bay, a few years ago. We almost retired then but decided to roll the dice one more time and buy an underperforming country pub, knowing that we could turn it around. We’ve done what we set out to achieve, which is build a sustainable business and now we’re ready to retire – for good this time!”
New owners, Wayne Lerigo & Erkan Balon are very experienced operators who currently run The Black Bull in Pickering, and previously The Londesborough Arms, in Seamer, and decided to purchase the Coachman Inn because they saw huge potential to grow the business and wanted to own a freehold. They comment, “We had lots of time to plan before taking ownership of The Coachman, so we’ve really hit the ground running. We did over 200 meals on Sunday just gone and our carvery has been a huge success. We’ve redesigned the menu which includes a mixture of traditional home cooked dishes, fine dining, and authentic home made Turkish dishes, hopefully offering something for everybody, and we look forward to welcoming customers old and new.”
David Cash, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments, “We’ve known Ian and Carol for a number of years now and it’s a great feeling knowing that we’ve helped them achieve their goal of retirement!
“Coaching inns and pubs with rooms like the Coachman are proving popular in today’s market as buyers seek security from multiple income streams in food, beverage and accommodation sales. The Coachman adds to a growing list of North Yorkshire coaching inn businesses we’ve sold in recent months. Others of note include The Fox & Hounds at Sinnington, just up the road from Snainton, and The Bolton Arms, in Redmire, in the Dales.
“Wayne & Erkan are experienced operators and I’m looking forward to seeing the business thrive under their ownership. We wish them all the best of the future!”
The freehold interest of the Coachman Inn was sold off an asking price of £550,000.
