Pair of established day nurseries in Orpington and Bromley sold
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Sunnyfields Day Nurseries which comprises two day nurseries, one in Bromley and one in Orpington in Kent.
Sunnyfields Day Nurseries is a profitable, popular nursery group which accommodates up to 100 children aged between three months and five years. The Bromley setting is well located amidst residential areas, whilst the Orpington setting is very close to a station making it the ideal choice for commuting parents.
Anna Bailey opened the Bromley nursery site in 1998 and the Orpington nursery seven years later. Over this time, the business has grown from strength to strength, with the brand very much becoming part of the local community which has helped in maintaining waiting lists and keeping occupancy robust over the Covid period.
Following a confidential sales process with Christie & Co, Sunnyfields Day Nurseries has been sold to Nursery World’s ‘Nursery Group of the Year 2022’ winner, Kindred Nurseries, taking them to 26 settings across the UK.
Anna Bailey comments, “After almost 25 years at the helm, setting the nurseries up from scratch, I knew now was the right time for me to hand over the baton to someone else. I was looking for a chain to carry the nurseries forward and compete in this increasingly competitive market. Kindred Nurseries have been true to their word from the beginning, and I couldn't recommend them enough to other established owners who are considering selling. Thank you Sophie at Christie & Co for gently encouraging me to put my nurseries up for sale, and of course introducing me to Ruth at Kindred.”
Ruth Pimental, CEO of Kindred Nurseries, comments, “This fabulous group of nurseries will bring our group to 26 settings, and we know they will be a great match for the rest of our family. Anna and Stuart’s passion was evident, and they were keen to know that the settings would continue to be looked after and further developed. We are excited to start a new phase, with Sunnyfields Day Nurseries being a key part of that development.”
Sophie Willcox, Director – Childcare & Education at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “We were inundated with interest for Sunnyfields and were in receipt of multiple offers due to their excellent locations and reputation that Anna and her team have worked so hard to build. Kindred were a great fit given their shared ethos, and the proximity of their existing settings meant Sunnyfields could slot nicely into the group.
“Despite the turbulence in the news, we are not seeing any reduction in demand for good quality, profitable leasehold or freehold settings. I believe that those premium nurseries will continue to attract interest as there is still plenty of appetite from a range of buyers.”
Legal advice was provided by Julie Hughes, Lauren Romo, and Imogen Law at Cripps.
Sunnyfields Day Nurseries was sold for an undisclosed price.
