The Chichester Hotel seeks new owners through Christie & Co
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has been instructed to market the Chichester Hotel, a substantive hotel, wedding and events venue in Wickford, North Essex.
Dating back to the 13th century, the Chichester Hotel takes its name from Sir John de Chichestre, who was the original occupant of Chichester Hall. The characterful property features 36 en suite bedrooms, a bar, restaurant and extensive wedding and event spaces.
The Chichester Suite, a Tudor beamed room, accommodates up to 200 guests and serves as the main function room. Two of the original farm buildings have been renovated into the smaller event spaces: the Essex Barn which caters for up to 60 guests, and the Stable Inn, a 70-cover dining pub. The Gallery restaurant is a contemporary space arranged for 70 covers. All rooms have their own entrances enabling multiple events to run simultaneously.
The property is well positioned in the Essex countryside, approximately nine miles from Southend-on-Sea and six miles east of Basildon, and prior to closing it was renowned as one of the regions most popular venues for weddings and events, which attracted a broad mix of corporate and leisure guests.
Simon Jackaman, Director – Hotels East Anglia, who is handling the sale, comments, “This is a very attractive underlying piece of real estate, and it is our hope to find a new owner and hopefully new investment through an open marketing process. The hotel was operated over many years as a family concern by our clients but more recently they had leased it out, resulting in its closure around May 2023.
“In view of the attractive location and potential business upside opportunities presented, I believe that the hotel is likely to generate a wide variety of prospective purchasers and/or investors, both from within the industry as well as those looking for lifestyle investments.”
Offers over £1,600,000 plus VAT (if applicable) are being sought for the freehold property with vacant possession.
