The jewel of Corwen's Crown looking for new owner
The historic Crown Hotel in Corwen, a 17th century coaching inn, is being offered for sale by specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co.
The hotel, a well known and prominent part of Corwen’s landscape, is conveniently situated on the banks of the River Dee beneath the spectacular views of Berwyn Mountains.
Located approximately eight miles from Llangollen, the three storey property, which dates back to 1628, is a Grade II listed building set within its own grounds, and also includes a side garden for either patrons or cars.
Tom O’Malley, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Manchester office is handling the sale. He says, “The Crown Hotel is a great opportunity for someone to take over a business with a lot of character and history.
“By improving on the services and facilities already in place, most notably its recently refurbished nine letting bedrooms, a new owner would be able to increase already strong income streams and maximise the potential that the Crown holds.”
The property has recently been modernised by the vendor and features exposed stone, brick, and wood-panelled walls, wood beam ceilings and an open wood burner which all contribute to retaining the inn’s popularity and success within the local community.
Tom O’Malley adds, “There are ample opportunities and potential to further increase turnover of the business with the Old Coach House, which is a currently unused space in need of refurbishment and is being offered for sale under separate negotiation.”
This space is spread across two floors, there are three bedrooms and a bathroom to the first floor with either retail or living space to the ground. This could provide an excellent business opportunity for the potential buyer of The Crown Hotel.
The coaching hotel also boasts a garden and patio to the side elevation of the property and benefits from onsite owner’s accommodation which is arranged over the first floor and consists of two bedrooms, a living room, a bathroom, and a kitchenette.
In addition to a strong local customer base, visitors to the hotel range from couples visiting local wedding venues, tourist visitors as well as proving popular for business visitors to Corwen and the surrounding areas.
The hotel is currently owned and operated by Kevin and Dawn Burns, who are looking to sell due to returning abroad. Mr Burns comments, “Our time at The Crown Hotel has been an absolute joy and it has been a pleasure to live and work within this historic building.
“Our local customers and our guests from all over the UK and internationally have made our time incredibly memorable.”
The Crown Hotel is available freehold at an asking price of £349,950.
