Unique convenience store in Gloucestershire comes to the market

Situated in the heart of the affluent village of Yorkley in West Gloucestershire, Yorkley Stores is approximately three miles north of Lydney and twenty miles south-west of Gloucester.

Current owners, Andy and Donna Palmer, moved to the area in July 2011 and after eight years they have decided to sell the business in order to free up time for their wider family and they also plan on semi-retiring. They comment, “So many people in the village made us feel welcome from day one, for which we are so very grateful.

“It has been of paramount importance to offer incredible customer service combined with the best range of products we can accommodate in a clean and pleasing environment. We have the best team of staff supporting us and our customers. However, most importantly, we have a friendly and loyal customer base who we have come to know very well. It is important that our staff and customers know that the sale of a business can take quite some time to go through, so it is likely that we will be here for many months or longer. We will continue to work hard during this time, to maintain the offering in the shop and to continue to support our team.”

There is opportunity for new owners to introduce a variety of product ranges, promotions and a larger hot food offering to help increase gross profit margins. Currently closing at 8pm throughout the week, the store offers scope to increase trade through longer opening hours. There is the potential to utilise the barn as retail space for animal feed or non-perishable goods and there is the potential for additional revenue by letting out the flat, currently occupied by family.

Jamie Williams, Business Agent at Christie & Co comments, “Yorkley Stores is a fantastic business in a picturesque location and is the ideal opportunity for those looking for a strong retail business, with scope to increase trade. The store is suitable for both new entrants and multiple operators in the region, with strong sales and the potential to utilise the barn and rent out the flat.”

Christie & Co are offering the freehold interest in Yorkley Stores at an asking price of £575,000.
