Well-established Somerset-based domiciliary care agency sold
Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Somerset-based domiciliary agency, Way Ahead Care, to Somerset Care.
Established in the late 1990s, Way Ahead Care has developed into a high-quality and well-run business with numerous contracts with local authorities and extra care housing schemes. With significant family involvement during this time, the company’s Directors decided that the time was right for Way Ahead Care to be taken under the umbrella of a larger organization and they, therefore, appointed Christie & Co to sell the business.
The domiciliary care agency runs from urban office premises in two prime Somerset locations which allow it to operate across the county without being in direct competition with itself and across different local authority areas.
The business has been purchased by Somerset Care which has 27 care homes and provides care and support to help service users remain independent in their own homes.

There are no plans to change working practices or service offerings at either business, and both organisations will continue to provide tailored support to those who need it. This is a positive step in Somerset Care’s strategy for growth, which enables the expansion of community care services in Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset.”
Simon Harvey, Senior Director at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “We carried out a confidential marketing campaign and received interest and offers from a wide range of purchasers. However, Somerset Care’s position as a trusted provider and its local reputation was key in them being selected as the preferred purchaser.
“Opportunities of this nature are rare in the market, and we were delighted to be able to achieve a positive outcome for all concerned. There remains strong appetite for a wide range of care businesses, and we are seeing this across the region.”
Legal advice for the buyer was supplied by Hazel Phillips of Royds Withy King. Kirill Bingham, Corporate Partner at Clarke Willmott LLP, acted for the sellers.
Way Ahead Care was sold for an undisclosed price.
