Zazu’s Kitchen to open in Bath
Businesses sold
The leasehold licensed business known as The Bear Hotel, located south of the city centre of Bath, has been by sold by specialist property adviser Christie + Co for an undisclosed sum.
The Bear Hotel is a prominent 2 storey stone built property currently consisting of open plan ground floor lounge bar and split level dining areas including a restaurant and breakfast room and 7 stylish boutique hotel rooms on the first floor.
The new owners are Zazu’s Kitchen, a local independent company with community pubs and restaurants in Bristol including two established Zazu’s Kitchen sites in Bishopston and Bedminster. This is their first site outside of Bristol and was an obvious target for its successful concept of providing an all-day, neighbourhood café, restaurant and bar serving quality dishes from breakfasts, brunch and lunch through to afternoon teas and their acclaimed dinner menu.
Partner Dougal Templeton, a former Bath resident and ex reporter at the Bath Chronicle, explained: “The Bear is at the heart of a great community which is very much what we are about; providing the kind of friendly, fun neighbourhood boozer and restaurant we’d all love to have at the end of our road;- a21st century brasserie. We want locals to enjoy popping in, whether for a great coffee, a glass of wine and chat or a decent bite to eat.”
The new owners are currently undertaking a short refurbishment programme before re-opening as Zazu’s Kitchen @ The Bear in mid September. It will remain open for breakfasts and coffees and as a bar for the next three weeks [to Sunday 23 Aug] before closing for a further three weeks. Customers can look forward to a new look and new brunch, lunch and evening menus along with an improved drinks’ range.
Nicholas Calfe of Christie + Co's Bristol office who handled the sale commented: "The Bear attracted offers and interest from private investors, existing operators and corporate pub groups as soon as it came to the market. We’re pleased to see a local Bristol group being the successful purchasers."
